Decrypting Swank content for use on third party equipment

As of Sept 2015, the GUI decrypt app "SwankMotionPictures_decrypt.exe" was retired and replaced with a new command line utility.

Requesting the command line Decrypt Utility

• Contact Swank Digital Support
  • Request the Command Line Decrypt Utility
  • Include the following 
    • Facility/vessel name
    • What type of system (brand/vendor) you are loading the content
    • Order number of the drive you are trying to decrypt

Extracting the command line Decrypt Utility

• Once you have received the zip file, unzip the contents onto the system you will use for decryption
• Depending on your operating system, navigate to the appropriate directory

Using the command line Decrypt Utility (for Windows customers with a USB content update drive)

1. Attach the drive to the computer used with the decryption software
   • The content update drive letter must be D: through Z:
2. Double click on "DecryptWizard.bat"
3. Follow the on-screen prompts
4. Enter the location where you want the content to decrypt
   • The user is instructed to drag and drop the destination folder into the command line window.
   • The user can also type the path, but slashes and colons are required
   • User must press Enter or Return when the path is complete
5. The command prompt window will remain open till the content is completed

Using the command line Decrypt Utility (for Windows customers downloading their content via Aspera)

The command-line decrypt utility expects the content update files to reside on an external USB drive.  If you have instead opted to store your downloaded content on your computer's internal storage, the content folder must be mounted as a virtual disk prior to decrypting it.  The commands for this are as follows...

To create the virtual drive:

subst (drive letter) (path to folder)

For example -

subst X: c:\Swank\040123\SecretAgent\2019651234\

In this example, the folder 2019651234 will be mounted as drive letter X:

NOTES:

• The path to the folder can be populated by simply dragging and dropping a folder into the command prompt window.
• The folder you mount must contain the file called content.xml.
• The folder structure of your download must not be altered.
  • Files cannot be renamed or moved in order for the decrypt utility to work properly
• Once the virtual drive has been created, you can decrypt your content

To unmount your virtual drive:

Once your decryption is complete, you can unmount the virtual drive with the following command:

subst (drive letter) /D

For example:

subst X: /D

In this example, the drive letter X: will be unmounted
