Issue: When signing in to the Swank Download Manager, the login is blocked with the error: "Device limit reached — This account has exceeded the number of devices permitted." Each device that signs in to the Download Manager is registered to the account, and each account allows a limited number of registered devices. The error appears when all of the account's device slots are in use. Note that reinstalling the Download Manager or clearing its data counts as a new device, so repeated reinstalls can use up device slots.
Resolution:
Remove your own registered devices from the streaming portal website. The device limit does not block the website, so you can sign in there even when the Download Manager is blocked:
- Sign in to your streaming portal website with the same account.
- Open the account menu in the top-right corner and select Manage Devices.
- On the Registered Devices page, click Remove next to any device that is no longer needed, or select several and click Remove Selected. The list shows each device's application type, created date, and last-used date to help identify stale entries.
- Sign in to the Download Manager again.
If you do not see Manage Devices in the account menu, ask your portal administrator to remove the devices for you (step 2).
Ask a portal administrator to remove the devices. An administrator can manage any user's devices from the streaming portal's admin site:
- In the left navigation, expand Authentication and select Users.
- Find the user in the list — the search box accepts name or e-mail.
- Click the three-dot menu at the right of the user's row and choose Manage Devices.
- On the Registered Devices page, remove the devices that are no longer needed.
Once a device has been removed, the user can sign in to the Download Manager again.
