Description of issue:
The manufacturer of our Cinelink device has advised us to replace the CMOS battery in all Cinelink devices that were provisioned prior to November 2016. The CMOS battery in some devices are discharging prematurely which can result in time/date irregularities when disconnected from the internet. Since the content license is date specific, a date irregularity can result in failed playback. This only occurs when the battery has been discharged, and the Cinelink unit is booted without an internet connection.
Description of solution:
- Interim solution: Should you experience this issue, connect the device to an active internet connection and reboot the device while maintaining connectivity through playback.
- Long term solution is to replace the CMOS battery inside the Cinelink device. To perform this, Swank Motion Pictures is providing complimentary Battery Replacement Packets along with detailed instructions. The technical complexity of this process is minimal.
Battery Replacement Packet Contents:
- 1x CR2032 Lithium Coin Battery
- 1x PH2 Phillips Screwdriver (or Screwdriver bit set, use PH2 bit)
- 1x Replacement Instruction Sheet

- Power off Cinelink device and disconnect power, network and AV cabling
- If the optional vertical stand is attached, locate the screw in the bottom center of the stand. Use the provided PH2 screwdriver or screwdriver bit to loosen the screw till stand is free
- On the rear panel, locate two screws on either side. One is next to the power input, the other near the mini USB port. Use the provided screwdriver to loosen to remove both screws
- Remove the plate from the rear panel
- Holding the Cinelink box with the Swank logo facing up and on the left, use both thumbs to slide the cover toward the rear of the device, then remove the cover
- Locate the CMOS battery on the control board, remove the battery by pulling back the metal clip, see diagram. *Please dispose of the old battery appropriately
- Insert the new provided CR2032 battery with the positive (+) side facing up
- Align the cover with the screw tabs at the rear panel and press firmly to slide it back in place
- Align the plate with the AV, Power and Data connections on the rear panel
- Insert screws to secure the plate and cover
- Align the optional vertical stand on the bottom of the device and tighten the screw to secure
- You may now reconnect and power up your Cinelink device. *Please ensure you are connected to the network upon power up so the device can acquire the proper date and time from the time server.
