Summary
Swank streaming titles are encoded to support Adaptive Bitrate Streaming in order to be as network friendly as possible. Each title is encoded at 5 different bit rates.
The bitrate streamed to the client device depends upon both device and network characteristics. These characteristics include screen resolution, CPU availability, graphics processor, network bandwidth and speed available. As the network becomes more congested, the client device player will automatically request lower resolution playback (down to 800) to avoid buffering. If the bandwidth is insufficient to support the lowest bitrate, then the title will buffer.

Encode Sizes
BitRate Layer (Kb/sec)
|
MB / min for encode
|
Size for a 120-minute title (GB)
|
---|---|---|
3000 | 22.5 | 2.7 |
2000 | 15 | 1.8 |
1500 | 11.25 | 1.35 |
.8 (800 kb/s) | 6 | .72 |
.4 (400 kb/s) | 3 | .36 |
To Calculate a package size, multiple the MB/min * number of minutes for a title for every bit rate. then add the bit sizes for each layer together.
For a package containing all default bitrates the total size would be estimated like so:
22.5 + 15 + 11.25 + 6 + 3 = 57.75 MB per minute
100 minutes x 57.75= 5.78 GB
or
120 minutes x 57.75 = 6.93 GB

Content Protection
Swank streaming content is safeguarded through the Swank DRM platform, which provides comprehensive Digital Rights Management (DRM) to ensure secure and controlled access to licensed media. In addition, playback environments must be HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) compliant, ensuring that content is viewed only on secure, certified devices. Additional details can be found at the link below:
Content Issues
Troubleshooting steps for common content playback issues can be found here: On-Premise Streaming - Troubleshooting Video Playback Errors
If you are experiencing issues with a specific title, please contact Swank Digital Support with the specifics of what you are experiencing. Please include timeframes if applicable. We will pass this on to our Content Team and they will review the issue being reported. If a confirmed issue is found, a new encode will be created and made available.
