Issue: PowerEdge R415 flickering/experiencing picture loss every 15-20 seconds during "Next Up" intermission.
Cause: This issue arises from this processor BIOS setting. The CPU is cycling down (and back up again) when an intermission is loaded. As this does not put much load on the CPU, it cycles down. However, it cycles back up again quickly as the DMP software makes demands on it. This triggers the video flickering.
Resolution:
- Restart the DMP
- During the boot process, press F2 on the keyboard for the BIOS setup screen
- Navigate to processor settings and disable “Processor C States” (Or C1E)
- Save the change and restart the machine
The video output should now be steady, and any flickering should be gone. Disabling the CPU cycling resolves the issue. The issue generally does not occur when video is playing as this puts a consistent load on the CPU which also disables this power cycling.
