Summary
There are three primary methods through which you can receive content for your Cinelink™ device. Each method offers unique advantages and may cater to different user preferences and operational needs. Please review the details below to identify an appropriate match for your needs.
Table of Contents
Network Delivery Directly to Cinelink™
In order to download content, you will need to connect your Cinelink™ device to a network with internet access that will allow the device to communicate back to Swank. Your Network and IT staff likely have firewall rules in place for security. There are certain ports that will need to be open for Cinelink™ to communicate with our content servers. Please provide the document linked below to your IT team and ask that they allow the endpoints listed under the Internet section.
Advise your Network and IT staff that if they employ any "packet shapers" or "traffic shapers" on the network, the IP address the Cinelink™ device occupies need to be "Whitelisted" and provide appropriate bandwidth to allow for large file downloads (9 to 15 GB per movie).
Note: For Aspera sessions that are failing to authenticate, the most common issue is that the SSH authentication is being blocked.
Below is a link to our Cinelink™ Network Assessment Tool if needed. You can run this tool from a Windows machine connected to the same port the Cinelink™ will occupy, and it will give you an indication if there is a network related issue for your Cinelink™ device.
*For satellite connections with limited bandwidth, the content and software updates can be delivered via hard drive and does not require a constant internet connection. You will only require an internet connection for the activation of the device.
- An internet connection is not required for playback
- You will need to make sure the content is fully downloaded prior to moving the Cinelink™ device from the network connection
USB Hard Drive Delivery
All Cinelink™ devices are enabled for network content delivery. Some Cinelink™ customers may be in environments where internet access is not readily available. These customers will receive Cinelink™ content updates via a physical USB hard drive shipment in addition to having the ability to download content from Aspera if they can connect to the internet. (No additional changes need to be made to make downloads possible, the customer would just need to connect to the internet to start downloading.)
In order to process USB hard drive content updates, follow these steps:
- Attach the USB hard disk to your Cinelink™ using the included USB cable.
- The content update process will begin automatically.
- A flashing USB icon will appear in the upper left of the control monitor.
- The title that is currently being processed will appear on the control monitor and will be grayed out. If that title is selected, you will see a percentage remaining indicator showing how much of the title has been imported.
- Once the full content update has completed, the USB icon in the upper left will disappear.
Ingest Issues
If your content hard drive is not ingesting, please contact Swank Digital Support with the order number you are having an issue with and the asset tag number of the Cinelink device. The order number will be printed on the barcode label attached to the USB hard drive.
Network Download via Aspera
Some customers prefer to download the USB hard drive shipment payload from Aspera (hosted by us) and create USB drives with it at their location. This would need to be discussed with your Account Executive to configure an Aspera account. Once the content order is downloaded, you would process it the same way as a physical USB hard drive (detailed above). Additional details about downloading from Aspera can be found at the following link: Aspera Content Downloads
