AirPlay and Casting in Safari is a function supported by Apple.
Casting with AirPlay
v.1.0.
AirPlay is a feature that allows you to cast video content from Apple devices (such as iPhones, iPads, and Macs) to compatible AirPlay-enabled devices (such as Apple TV, HomePod, or smart TVs). Here's how to use AirPlay with Swank content:
- You must be using the Apple Safari browser only. All other browsers are not guaranteed to work with AirPlay.
- Make sure that your Apple device and the AirPlay-enabled device are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
- On your Apple device, open the app that has the video content you want to cast.
- Tap the AirPlay icon. This icon is usually found in the control center or in the app itself. It looks like a triangle with a circle around it.
- Select the device you want to cast to from the list of available AirPlay-enabled devices.
- Once you select the device, the video content should start playing on the AirPlay-enabled device. You can use your Apple device to control playback.
Note: If you don't see the AirPlay icon, make sure that both your Apple device and the AirPlay-enabled device are on the latest software update.
Issues you might encounter when using AirPlay:
- Connection problems: If your Apple device and the AirPlay-enabled device are not on the same Wi-Fi network, you will not be able to cast video content. Make sure that both devices are connected to the same network.
- Incompatible devices: Not all devices are compatible with AirPlay. Make sure that the device you want to cast to is AirPlay-enabled.
- Interrupted playback: If the Wi-Fi connection is weak or there is too much traffic on the network, the playback of the video content may be interrupted. Try moving the devices closer to the router or disconnecting other devices from the network to improve the connection.
- Audio and video syncing issues: If the audio and video are not syncing correctly, try restarting both the Apple device and the AirPlay-enabled device and then trying again.
By following these steps, you should be able to use AirPlay to cast video content without any issues. If you continue to experience problems, contact the manufacturer of the AirPlay-enabled device for further support. Swank is unable to support the device itself.
In a corporate environment, users may experience additional networking issues when using AirPlay due to the complexity of the network infrastructure and security restrictions. Here are some common issues that users might encounter:
- Firewall restrictions: Firewalls can block AirPlay traffic, which may prevent the devices from discovering each other or interrupting the playback. If you are using a firewall, make sure that it is configured to allow AirPlay traffic.
- VLANs and subnets: If your corporate network is divided into multiple VLANs or subnets, the AirPlay-enabled device and the Apple device may not be able to discover each other or communicate with each other if they are on different VLANs or subnets.
- Network security policies: Corporate networks may have policies that restrict the use of certain types of traffic, such as peer-to-peer traffic, which can cause problems with AirPlay.
- WPA2 Enterprise: If your corporate network uses WPA2 Enterprise for wireless security, the Apple device may not be able to connect to the network or may experience interruptions in the playback.
- DNS issues: If the corporate network uses a private DNS, the Apple device may not be able to resolve the hostname of the AirPlay-enabled device, which can cause problems with AirPlay.
To resolve these issues, you may need to work with your IT department to make changes to the network configuration or security policies. If you are having trouble with AirPlay in a corporate environment, it is best to seek assistance from your IT support team.
Further information:
We advise your network teams to review the port restrictions in place and allow the necessary ports for this use. Due to frequent changes by Apple and the various browsers, we do not have a definitive list of port requirements to facilitate AirPlay. For further support with this, you should contact Apple or your browser's developer.
