If your Swank Cloud Hosted Streaming Portal is configured to use single sign on (SSO) you may notice that the email addresses associated with your registered accounts in the User Manager area are often modified with a "plus tag."
For example, user@school.org may be modified to user+dc@school.org.
This modification is done deliberately to prevent conflicts that occur when a single email address is utilized by both a registered account and an SSO account. When a conflict like this occurs, the registered account is automatically deleted and merged into the SSO account. This can result in portal administrators having difficulty accessing their portal, especially if the SSO configuration should ever break.
Modifying a registered user's email address in this way ensures that the registered account will remain in place, even if the user has a separate SSO account.
Please note:
- These plus tags are supported by most email systems.
- Messages sent to modified addresses should arrive in that person's regular email inbox.
- These tags are entirely arbitrary and can be made up as needed.
- For example, you may see modifications like -
- user+1@school.org
- user+dc@school.org
- Or any other combination of letters and numbers following the + symbol.
